Game Rules:
  • 5 minute pre-game warm up

  • Games will be 1 hour and 30 minutes in duration with the first two periods of run time and the third period is stop time

  • All periods are 20 minutes in duration

  • Third period is subject to the “Mercy Rule” which states that should a team be trailing by 5 or more goals at any time, run time will commence until the goal differential is 4 or less.

  • Semi-final games and Championship final game will be played under the same format of two run time and one stop time periods, Mercy rule in effect, but will not end in a tie: see rules for tie games below.

  • No time outs are permitted.

  • If the tournament is running significantly behind schedule, the tournament committee may convert the third period to run time. This decision will be made before the beginning of the third period.

There is ZERO tolerance for “Abuse of Officials”. Offenders will be ejected from the game. Referee decisions are final.
Penalties:

Run time minor penalties will be 3 minutes in duration.
Stop time minor penalties will be 2 minutes in duration.

In the event there is a penalty to carry over from running time to stop time, the following will occur:

  • If there is more than 2 minutes left in the run time penalty, the penalty clock will be reset to 2 minutes.

  • If there is less than 2 minutes left in the run time penalty, the penalty clock will remain as is.

Players who are assessed a GAME MISCONDUCT PENALTY in the last 10 minutes of a game, will be suspended a minimum of one additional game.
Players or Coaches who are receiving a GROSS MISCONDUCT PENALTY or MATCH PENALTY shall be suspended from the remainder of the tournament.
Any player penalized for fighting will be suspended for the remainder of the tournament.

Round Robin Format:

Throughout round robin play, teams will be awarded:

Win = 2 points
Tie = 1 point
Loss = 0 points

Tie Games: If two or more teams are tied for points at the end of the round robin, the following will apply in this ORDER:

  1. If two teams are tied, the winner of the round robin game between those teams (head to head) will advance to the higher placing.

  2. If three or more teams are tied, the teams will be ranked based on the Goal Average Formula described below.

    • The goal average of a team is to be determined by dividing the total number of goals for and against, in to the total number of goals for, with the team having the highest percentage winning the higher position.

    • For the purpose of calculating goal average a maximum of 5 goals per game differential will be used in the calculation (eg: If you win a game 8-0, only 5-0 will be used for the goal average calculation)

    • EXAMPLE
      Team A: Goals for 10, Goals against 4, Percentage if 10/14 = 0.714%
      Team B: Goals for 7, Goals against 4, Percentage if 7/11 = 0.636%
      Team C: Goals for 7, Goals against 3, Percentage if 7/10 = 0.700%
      In this example Team A would be the winner of the tie breaker having the highest percentage with 0.714%

  3. If still tied, the team with the least amount of penalty minutes would receive the higher placing. Penalty minutes will include minor, major and misconducts in the total penalty minutes.

  4. If still tied, the team with the fewest goals against will receive the higher placing.

  5. If still tied, winner of a coin flip will receive the higher placing.

Playoff Round:

Semi finals and Championship games: Same game format as round robin play except if tied at the end of regulation time, teams will enter into over time play.

Overtime Play:
  • 5 minute stop time, 4 on 4 sudden death overtime will be played.

  • If still tied, a 3 player shoot out will be held, with each teams pre selecting 3 shooters. Home team shoots first and the team who scores the most of 3 wins.

  • If still tied, go to an elimination shoot out, one new shooter from each team per round. No shooter may go again until all shooters have taken a turn, except the goalie. The team that scores after both shooters take a turn during the single shooter elimination wins.

Penalties in Overtime:

If a team has a penalty existing from the third period, they will then begin the over time period short handed and will play 4 on 3.
If a team with a current penalty receives a second, non-coincidental penalty, they will play 5 on 3.
Once teams are back to 5 on 5, play will change back to the 4 on 4 format AFTER the stoppage of play.
The next coincidental penalty will be played 4 on 3.

End of Game Awards:

At the end of each game: players line up on their own blue lines for player of the game and heart and hustle awards, coaches to choose two players from their own team. The awards will be in the scorekeepers room.
Gold and Silver medals will be handed out after the final game.
Teams will then line up to shake hands.
